Baltimore, MD (JK) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration has started a major rehabilitation project on the Route 15 bridge over the Potomac River in the Point of Rocks area at the Maryland-Virginia state line.
The project includes cleaning, painting and repairs to the two-lane, eight-span camelback truss bridge, which was originally built in 1939. The improvements are designed to maintain the bridge’s structural integrity and safety.
Symmetric Painting, LLC of Elkton is performing the work. Crews will work overnight throughout the project, with single-lane closures and flagging operations maintaining two-way traffic across the bridge, which handles approximately 23,000 vehicles per day.
The work is not expected to affect CSX railroad operations or public access to the C&O Canal or nearby boat ramp.
The project is expected to be completed in fall 2027, weather permitting. Motorists are urged to slow down, stay alert in work zones and follow all posted traffic controls.
