Gaithersburg, MD (JK) – Two women wanted in connection with the killing of a Montgomery County woman have been arrested in Ohio following a nationwide search.
Vanessa Wahanganisa Tjongarero-Henderson, 29, of Clarksburg, and Samantha Raebel, 36, of Phoenix, Arizona, were taken into custody June 10 by the Genoa Police Department after a resident recognized them from media coverage and a Montgomery County Police news release.
The arrests are connected to the death of 67-year-old Hilde Henderson, who was discovered inside her apartment at the Charter House on Fenwick Lane in Silver Spring on May 26 after officers responded for a welfare check.
The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner determined Henderson died from blunt force trauma and ruled her death a homicide. Detectives believe she was killed on May 22.
According to investigators, evidence recovered during the investigation led the Montgomery County Police Major Crimes Division to obtain arrest warrants for Tjongarero-Henderson and Raebel on May 27, charging both women with first-degree murder.
The search for the suspects stretched across multiple states, with media coverage and investigative leads extending into Ohio, Tennessee and Arizona. Detectives received several tips before the two women were located in Genoa.
Tjongarero-Henderson and Raebel are being held at the Ottawa County Detention Center while they await extradition to Maryland. Authorities have not released a possible motive in the case.
