Motorists traveling through Washington County should prepare for overnight detours at the I-70 and I-81 interchange next week.
The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration says I-70 westbound and I-81 northbound will be temporarily closed from June 22 through June 25 between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. as crews replace overhead highway signs.
Drivers on I-81 north heading to I-70 west will be detoured using Halfway Boulevard before reconnecting with I-70 west. Meanwhile, motorists traveling west on I-70 who need access to I-81 north or south will continue to the Williamsport exit, turn around on I-70 east, and re-enter I-81 at Exit 26.
The project is expected to wrap up by the morning of June 26, weather permitting, and drivers are encouraged to allow extra travel time.
