Federal investigators are working to determine what caused a deadly small plane crash in Bowie that claimed three lives.
According to Maryland State Police, the single-engine aircraft crashed around 11:30 Saturday night in a wooded area near Archer Park, just feet from a townhouse community. The plane had departed from Ocean City, New Jersey, and was headed to Montgomery County Airpark in Gaithersburg.
Officials say an iPhone crash alert triggered a multi-agency search that ended when crews found the wreckage early Sunday morning. The pilot and two passengers died in the crash, while residents on the ground were not hurt.
The NTSB and FAA are leading the investigation.
