July 15 is National Hot Dog Day, and several food retailers nationwide are offering promotions to celebrate.
Americans consume roughly 20 billion hot dogs each year, or 70 hot dogs per person, on average, according to the National Hot Dog and Sausage Council (NHDSC).
Between Memorial Day and Labor Day, Americans eat an estimated 7 billion hot dogs, enough to stretch from Washington, D.C., to Los Angeles more than five times, according to the NHDSC.

From gas stations and convenience stores to traditional restaurants, there are plenty of ways to get a deal on one of America’s favorite summer foods.
At 7-Eleven, customers who use its app can get any two roller grill items, including the Big Bite hot dog, for $3.50. The Big Bite hot dog is an all-beef, quarter-pound dog that can be customized with various sauces and condiments at the chain’s Big Bite bar.
Speedway and Stripes stores, which are owned by 7-Eleven, are offering a similar deal for rewards members.
Circle K is honoring the day by selling roller grill hot dogs for $1 when purchased through the store’s app.
New Englanders who have a Cumberland Farms store nearby can get two hot dogs for $3 until July 20.
Love’s is offering a free hot dog through its app.

Sheetz, which partners with Nathan’s Famous Hot Dogs, is promoting a deal in which customers can get two free hot dogs through its app when they purchase fuel.
The convenience store chain is also promoting the launch of the “Big Glizzy” (an internet slang term for a hot dog) in partnership with Nathan’s and Pittsburgh Pirates star Paul Skenes. The menu item consists of an extra large Nathan’s Famous stadium-style hot dog on a soft bun.
Krystal Rewards members can get a free Classic Pup, Corn Pup or Chili Cheese Pup with a qualifying $5 purchase on National Hot Dog Day.
The co-owners of Dogs Out, a seasonal hot dog stand that Fox and Friends reported has become a staple of the Jersey Shore, are on a quest to “make hot dogs cool again.”
Dogs Out co-founders Matt D’Arcy and Keith Stedronsky will be celebrating National Hot Dog Day with a “high-energy” hot dog-eating competition tour for college fraternities, with competitors vying for a cash prize and a championship belt.
