Frederick, MD (JK) – Frederick County is inviting residents to attend two informational open houses this September to learn how the county regulates data center development.
The sessions will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on September 2 at the Claggett Center in Adamstown and September 9 at the Urbana Volunteer Fire Department banquet hall. Representatives from several county agencies, including Planning and Permitting, Public Works, Emergency Management, the Health Department and Fire and Rescue Services, will be available to answer questions and provide information. There will be no formal public comment period.
The events follow executive orders issued by County Executive Jessica Fitzwater after the Maryland Supreme Court ruled that the county’s proposed data center zoning restrictions could not appear on this fall’s ballot. One order pauses the acceptance of new Critical Digital Infrastructure applications through December 31 while the state completes its Data Center Impact Analysis. A second requires developers to provide proof of registration with the Maryland Public Service Commission before beginning the county’s development review process.
County officials say the open houses are intended to improve transparency and help residents better understand how data center projects are regulated and reviewed. More information is available on the county’s data center webpage.
