A 20-year-old Virginia man is facing charges in connection with the sexual assault of a 12-year-old female in Berkeley County.
The Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office says Elijah Womack of Dale City was identified as the suspect within hours after receiving a report on July 7th. Investigators say the girl disclosed being sexually assaulted after meeting a man through social media. Police determined the investigation crossed multiple state lines, requiring coordination with several law enforcement agencies.
Investigators used interviews, digital evidence, surveillance video and physical evidence to identify Womack. Authorities also say he used electronic communications to facilitate contact with the victim and recorded sexually explicit acts with the child. He has been charged with sexual assault, soliciting a minor via computer, and filming a minor engaged in sexually explicit conduct.
Additional charges may be forthcoming as the investigation continues.
