The Maryland Department of Health is warning about a possible measles exposure in Carroll County after confirming a case involving a Central Maryland resident.
Health officials say anyone who was in the Carroll Hospital Emergency Department waiting room in Westminster on July 21st between 2:30 and 4:45 p.m. may have been exposed to the highly contagious virus.
Measles can spread through the air when an infected person breathes, coughs or sneezes, and the virus can remain in the air for up to two hours after the person leaves. Early symptoms include a fever above 101 degrees, a runny nose, cough and red, watery eyes. A red rash typically develops one to four days later, beginning on the face and spreading throughout the body.
Anyone who develops symptoms should contact their healthcare provider before going to a medical facility to help prevent further spread.
