An investigation into a Washington County house fire has led to the arrest of a Hancock man on multiple felony charges.
Firefighters were called Wednesday evening to a home in the 12500 block of Seavolt Road in Hancock after reports of a house fire. The Office of the State Fire Marshal determined the fire began in a bedroom and was deliberately set. Investigators also learned the home’s occupant had allegedly threatened to burn the house before the fire was reported, prompting a lookout for the suspect and his vehicle.
Cumberland Police located 40-year-old Joseph Brian Potter and took him into custody. He now faces charges including first-degree arson, arson threat, first-degree malicious burning, and malicious destruction of property over one thousand dollars. Potter remains held without bond in the Washington County Detention Center.
