Drug charges are now pending against a 37-year-old Westminster man following a traffic stop in Carroll County.
Deputies say they were conducting traffic enforcement Wednesday afternoon when they spotted a Ford Escape with Pennsylvania plates traveling westbound on Baltimore Boulevard above the posted speed limit. During the stop near WMC Drive, deputies noticed indicators of possible controlled substance violations and requested a K9 scan. The dog alerted to the odor of drugs.
Deputies then found two gelcaps of suspected fentanyl on the vehicle floor. Authorities say the driver, identified as Daniel Wayne King Junior, tried to flee on foot while deputies were searching him, but he was quickly taken into custody. A large bag containing more suspected fentanyl was recovered. Investigators say the total seizure was 30 capsules weighing 19-point-four grams.
King was charged with drug possession, possession with intent to distribute, and resisting or interfering with arrest. He was later released on personal recognizance.
