Kevin Meyer is officially taking over as chief of the Frederick Police Department after Mayor Michael O’Connor selected him for the position following a nationwide search.
Meyer has served as interim chief since December 2025 and has more than 18 years of experience with the department. During his career, he has worked in patrol, investigations, training, supervision and command, including serving as deputy chief of the Operational Services Bureau.
O’Connor says Meyer understands both the department and the community, and demonstrated the “steady judgment and thoughtful leadership” needed to serve as chief.
The search began in March and attracted more than 30 applicants. A community-led search committee helped identify three finalists before O’Connor made his selection.
Meyer says it is an “incredible honor” to lead the department where he has spent his career. He says his priorities will include supporting officers, investing in their professional development and continuing to build public trust.
Meyer is a longtime Frederick County resident and Urbana High School graduate. He holds degrees in criminal justice and business administration and is pursuing a doctorate in criminal justice leadership.
He officially assumed his duties as chief this week.
