Frederick County is receiving about $3.1 million, while Howard County will receive approximately $1.5 million through the second round of Maryland’s Grow Your Own Educators Grant Program.
The funding will be used to help current school employees become fully licensed teachers while continuing to work in their schools. In both counties, the grants will establish pathways for paraeducators and other education support professionals to earn college degrees and teacher certification. The programs are designed to help address teacher shortages and strengthen the local educator workforce, with a focus on high-need areas including special education and early childhood education.
The funding will also help schools develop a pipeline of teachers from employees who are already working with students in their communities.
