Frederick Municipal Airport is receiving $240,000 in federal funding to replace the aging HVAC system in its air traffic control tower.
Congresswoman April McClain Delaney and Senators Chris Van Hollen and Angela Alsobrooks announced the funding August 28. The grant comes through the Federal Aviation Administration’s Contract Tower Competitive Grant Program.
The FAA says the tower’s HVAC system has reached the end of its useful life. The replacement is expected to improve the facility’s reliability and support safe air traffic operations.
The new funding is in addition to $1.6 million in federal support the three lawmakers have secured for other infrastructure projects at Frederick Municipal Airport.
The airport is Maryland’s second busiest and serves as a reliever airport for Baltimore-Washington International Airport. It also supports local businesses and community operations, including emergency medical needs.
The Contract Tower Competitive Grant Program was created with $100 million in funding over five years through the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act of 2021.
