MARC Train will launch new weekday direct service between Montgomery County and Baltimore beginning September 28, giving commuters a one-seat ride between communities along the Brunswick and Camden lines.
The new service will connect Brunswick, Point of Rocks, Barnesville, Germantown, Gaithersburg, Rockville, Kensington, Silver Spring, College Park, Laurel and Baltimore Camden Station without requiring a transfer at Washington Union Station.
Maryland Transit Administration officials say the new service could reduce some travel times by up to 60 minutes. A trip from Silver Spring to Baltimore Camden Station, for example, will drop from 118 minutes to 57 minutes, while travel from Gaithersburg to Baltimore will decrease from 137 minutes to 78 minutes.
One train will travel to Baltimore each weekday morning, with a return trip in the evening. MTA says the service will be created by adjusting existing trains, with no additional annual operating costs.
Several Brunswick and Camden Line schedules will change to accommodate the new service, and riders are encouraged to check the updated timetables before September 28.
