A Howard County woman has been sentenced after admitting to filing false claims for home healthcare services through Maryland Medicaid.
Attorney General Anthony Brown says 60-year-old Falguni Patel submitted more than $25,000 in fraudulent claims while employed by HomeCentris Healthcare. Investigators say Patel claimed she was providing home healthcare services at times when she was actually working another job or was outside the country.
Patel pleaded guilty to felony public health fraud on August 3rd. She received a five-year sentence, with all but time served suspended, along with three years of supervised probation. She must also repay more than $25,000. The case is part of an ongoing investigation involving the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, the FBI, and Maryland State Police.
