Frederick County is moving forward with plans for a new 50-plus community center in Brunswick.
County Executive Jessica Fitzwater announced the future location and released the results of a feasibility study on senior center needs across the county.
The county purchased 13.4 acres from the Hope Family for the new center. Construction is expected to begin in fiscal year 2028.
The facility will be Frederick County’s first stand-alone, purpose-built 50-plus community center, providing space for programs, wellness, recreation and social activities.
The feasibility study recommends larger, modern facilities designed specifically for older adults. It also identifies potential future centers in Walkersville and Woodsboro, Urbana and New Market, the Frederick urban core, and West County.
County officials say the need for additional facilities is growing as Frederick County’s population of older adults continues to increase. By 2035, one in five county residents is expected to be 65 or older.
