University of Maryland Police have charged two men in connection with a series of residential burglaries and related incidents on the College Park campus.
UMPD identified the suspects as 18-year-old Tyler Butler of Frederick and 19-year-old Amir Short of Mt. Airy. Police say community tips helped investigators connect the men to five residential burglaries and other incidents reported August 30.
Both men were charged by criminal summons with five counts of fourth-degree burglary, five counts of common-law conspiracy to commit burglary and two counts of trespassing on posted property.
In one incident at South Campus Commons, a student returned to her residence and found water on the floor and property missing.
At Denton Hall, two students reported an intruder opening their bedroom door while they were sleeping. In another incident, a student reported two men repeatedly knocking on her door before leaving.
UMPD thanked the campus community for providing information that helped identify the suspects and urged students to remain aware of their surroundings and report suspicious activity.
