A Silver Spring woman will spend a year in prison for a crash that killed an 85-year-old woman and seriously injured another person.
Twenty-four-year-old Jesica Argueta pleaded guilty to vehicular manslaughter by gross negligence and second-degree assault. The crash happened last August at Randolph Road and Sherwood Forest Drive.
Authorities say Argueta was driving up to 84.5 miles per hour in a 40-mile-per-hour zone while weaving through rush-hour traffic. The victims were driving home from church and turning onto Sherwood Forest Drive when Argueta’s vehicle struck them. Josephine Gieske died from her injuries two weeks later.
Argueta was sentenced to 20 years, with all but one year suspended, plus five years of supervised probation.
