If your dog starts barking the second you walk out the door, leaving home can come with a little extra guilt. That can happen whether you live in an apartment or a house. A pet camera can show you what is happening, but watching from your phone does little when your dog reacts to every sound outside or gets anxious when you are gone.
WIM-Z wants to take a more active role. The small tracked robot uses on-device artificial intelligence to watch your dog and respond to certain behaviors. Once the robot is in position, it can identify your dog, detect barking and decide when to reward calmer behavior with a treat. You can also speak through the robot and drive it around your home from your phone.

WIM-Z stands for Watchful Intelligent Mobile Zen. The robot measures about 11 inches tall and rides on rubber tank-style treads. Its camera turret can pan 270 degrees and tilt more than 120 degrees. A side cartridge holds up to 44 treats.
Inside, WIM-Z uses a Raspberry Pi 5 with a Hailo-8 AI accelerator. The company says its onboard AI can identify individual dogs, classify barking and track a dog with its pan-and-tilt camera.
Once WIM-Z detects barking, its behavior system can decide whether to intervene without waiting for you. The robot can then use a calming cue and dispense a treat when appropriate.
However, there is an important limit. WIM-Z does not currently drive itself around your home looking for your dog. You control that movement through the app, or you can leave the robot in one location.
WIM-Z also includes two-way audio. Its app can show behavior activity and optional highlight clips, giving you another way to see what happened while you were away.
WIM-Z recently released results from seven field trials conducted between May and September 2026. Six took place in homes around the New York metro area. One took place at a kennel in Jersey City. Across the trials, four hand-built robots logged 50 sessions and about 60 hours of use. WIM-Z says the system detected more than 2,100 barks. It also made 107 autonomous interventions and dispensed about 500 rewards.
The biggest numbers came from two homes that ran repeat autonomous sessions over two to three weeks. In one home, barking fell from 161 barks per hour to 40, a 75% reduction. In the other, barking fell from 317 barks per hour to 53, an 83% reduction. WIM-Z also reported that more interventions ended with the dogs going quiet as the trials progressed.
ROBOT DOG COULD DELIVER YOUR NEXT PACKAGE AND AN AD
WIM-Z takes a gentler approach. Instead of using shocks, sprays or scolding, it relies on treats and calm cues to reinforce better behavior. That lines up with guidance from the American Veterinary Society of Animal Behavior, which recommends reward-based training and warns against aversive methods.
The bigger question is whether the AI can read the situation well enough to respond appropriately. A dog barking at a delivery person is very different from one that is distressed because you left. WIM-Z has to recognize that difference and react at the right moment for the approach to work well.
WIM-Z can handle the behavior side on its own. Its onboard AI can identify a dog, track it with the pan-and-tilt camera, detect barking, decide when to intervene and dispense a reward without you making each decision. What it cannot do yet is navigate your home on its own. You drive WIM-Z from room to room through the app, or you can leave it in one spot where your dog spends time.
The first customer units will work this way, combining autonomous behavior and training features with owner-controlled movement. Full self-navigation, where the robot maps your home and goes looking for your dog by itself, remains on the company’s roadmap and will not be included in the first units. So, WIM-Z can decide how to respond to your dog, but you still decide where the robot goes.
Any mobile robot with a camera and microphone deserves a privacy check before you let it roam around your living room. We asked WIM-Z exactly what happens to the information it collects. The company says all AI processing happens on the robot itself. That includes behavior detection, bark classification and decisions about when to intervene. No video is sent to the cloud for AI analysis.
Some information can still leave the robot. Event data such as bark activity, behavior interventions, treat dispensing and battery status are stored on an Amazon Web Services relay server so it can appear in the app’s activity history. If you connect remotely, live video and two-way audio stream through WIM-Z’s relay using encrypted WebRTC technology. The company says these are live streams to your phone, not recordings, and they are not stored on its servers.
Optional highlight clips work differently. Short selected clips can be uploaded for assembly and playback in the app, but WIM-Z says continuous footage is never uploaded. Owners can delete clips at any time or turn the feature off completely. The company says those clips are deleted within 90 days after an account is deleted.
WIM-Z also told CyberGuy that it does not sell customer data. Customer footage is not used to train its AI models unless the owner explicitly opts in. When the robot is used only on local Wi-Fi without remote access, the company says nothing leaves the home.
We have raised similar questions with other connected home robots because a camera that can move around your house gets access to very private spaces. Those answers give us a much clearer idea of how WIM-Z handles your information. Still, I would review the privacy controls before bringing any connected camera into my home.
ONE-WHEELED AI SECURITY ROBOT COULD PATROL YOUR PROPERTY
WIM-Z will cost $799 for the first production units. Right now, the company is taking a fully refundable $99 deposit to hold a spot. WIM-Z told CyberGuy it expects the first batch to ship from late Q4 2026 through Q1 2027. That means the first units could arrive between the end of 2026 and early 2027.
The company also acknowledges that hardware schedules can slip. If WIM-Z has not shipped your unit by Q2 2027, it says your deposit will be refunded automatically. WIM-Z says the deposits are held through Stripe and are not placed in the company’s operating account.
The company says it has built five robots so far. Four are still being used in the field, while another is in Shenzhen, China, for production evaluation with a manufacturer. That gives you a pretty good sense of where things stand. WIM-Z is still in the early stages, so reserving one now means you are getting in before the product has been widely released and used in homes.
If your dog tends to bark or get restless when you leave, WIM-Z shows where pet tech may be headed next. Instead of simply alerting you that something is happening, the robot can respond while you are away by using a calming cue and rewarding your dog when it settles down.
There is one thing to remember with the first version. WIM-Z will not roam around your house looking for your dog by itself. You will need to position it where your dog spends time or drive it remotely through the app.
Still, I would not count on a robot to solve serious separation anxiety. The ASPCA says dogs with moderate or severe separation anxiety may need gradual behavior work with an experienced professional. For barking or mild restlessness, though, a robot that recognizes what your dog is doing and responds at the right time could be a useful extra set of eyes at home.
The early results are interesting, but I want to see what happens when WIM-Z is tested with many more dogs in different homes. I also want to see how well the first production units perform once customers start using them. For now, WIM-Z has an interesting idea, some encouraging early numbers and a much clearer picture of what buyers will actually get.
WIM-Z caught my attention because it tackles a problem pet cameras mostly leave in your hands. Seeing your dog bark from miles away can make you feel helpless. WIM-Z’s onboard AI can make a training decision and reward calm behavior without waiting for you to step in. I also like that the first version keeps movement in your hands. You control where the robot goes, while the behavior and training system can operate on its own. Full self-navigation may come later. Keeping the AI processing on the robot means your video does not need to go to the cloud for behavior analysis. Remote features and optional highlight clips can still send some information outside your home, so you will want to understand those settings. At $799, I would still want to see more testing and hear from real customers once the first production units start shipping. But if WIM-Z can build on these early results, it could become a useful tool for dog owners who worry about what happens after they walk out the door.
