Maryland is making grant money available to small grocery stores and farm stands that serve communities with limited access to fresh food.
The state is offering between $25,000 and $150,000 per business. Eligible stores and farm stands must remain open year-round at least five days a week, with healthy food accounting for at least 20 percent of their total inventory.
Funding can help pay for new equipment, facility upgrades, additional inventory, and technology that allows businesses to accept Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits.
Business owners have until November 2nd to apply.
