Maryland Attorney General Anthony Brown says the state is part of a bipartisan coalition of 44 attorneys general reaching a $2.3 million settlement with Labcorp over a massive 2019 data breach.
The breach occurred at Labcorp’s former debt collector, the American Medical Collection Agency, and potentially exposed personal information belonging to more than 27-point-five million people nationwide, including about 451-thousand Maryland residents.
The settlement requires Labcorp to strengthen its information security program, limit the data it shares with vendors, and improve oversight of companies handling patient information. It also requires a third-party assessment focused on vendor security. The coalition previously reached a settlement with the collection agency in 2021.
