A 27-year-old Derwood man has been sentenced to 120 years in prison for the 2025 murders of two people in Rockville.
Kaloyan Stoev was sentenced Monday, September 28, in Montgomery County Circuit Court by Judge John Maloney.
A jury found Stoev guilty April 23 of two counts of second-degree murder, two counts of using a firearm in the commission of a felony and two counts of possessing a firearm while prohibited.
The convictions stem from the January 17, 2025, shooting deaths of 26-year-old Marcell Hebron and 27-year-old Leilani Marroquin.
According to investigators, Stoev was sitting in the back seat of a BMW at a hotel on Research Court, with Hebron in the driver’s seat and Marroquin in the front passenger seat. Stoev used two loaded handguns to shoot Hebron 27 times.
Marroquin ran from the vehicle, but investigators determined Stoev shot her five times. She was later found dead in the hotel parking lot.
Stoev then drove the BMW to Shady Grove Road and Research Boulevard, where the vehicle stopped running. He fled on foot and eventually returned to the hotel, where detectives arrested him.
Assistant State’s Attorneys Ashley Inderfurth and Dermot Garrett prosecuted the case.
