Residents of Frederick County will have an opportunity to safely dispose of unwanted and expired medications during the DEA’s National Prescription Drug Take Back Day on Saturday, October 24.
The Frederick County Health Department will hold a drive-through collection from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 350 Montevue Lane in Frederick.
Residents may dispose of prescription and over-the-counter medicines in pill form, prescription patches and pet medications in pill form. Sharps, including syringes, needles, lancets and auto-injectors, will also be accepted but must be separated from medications.
The event is for residential disposal only and is not intended for businesses, clinics or medical facilities. Residents may use the original medication containers but are encouraged to remove identifying information from prescription labels. Those disposing of sharps should have an approximate count of the items.
The Health Department says safely disposing of unwanted medications can help prevent drug sharing, addiction and overdose deaths.
