Frederick County landowners with at least two acres of open or underused property can receive financial incentives to establish permanent forests through the Creek ReLeaf program.
Eligible landowners can receive up to $9,000 per acre, with the county covering tree costs, planting and five years of professional maintenance. The program has helped plant more than 650 acres of native trees since 2017.
Creek ReLeaf recently received a $904,000 grant from the Maryland Department of Natural Resources and nearly $650,000 from the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation to expand local reforestation efforts.
Applications are being accepted through December 31, 2026. An informational open house is scheduled for October 20 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Middletown Library.
