If you’re planning to travel westbound on I-70 through Washington County this weekend, be prepared for a significant detour.
The Maryland State Highway Administration will close all westbound lanes near Bower Avenue, at mile marker 27, to install a pipe across the highway. The closure starts Friday, October 16 at 9 p.m. and is scheduled to remain in place until Sunday, October 18 at 9 p.m., weather permitting.
Westbound drivers will be diverted at Exit 28, Downsville Pike, and directed onto Route 632. To get back to westbound I-70, motorists will continue on northbound I-81 to Exit 4-B. Drivers should allow extra travel time, stay alert in the work zone, and follow warning signs, flaggers and posted speed limits.
