Frederick County Executive Jessica Fitzwater delivered her fourth State of the County address Wednesday, October 21, reviewing accomplishments from her first four years in office and outlining priorities for the county’s future.
Speaking at the Brunswick Volunteer Fire Company, Fitzwater emphasized accountability, inclusion, sustainability and cooperation among government agencies, community organizations, businesses and residents.
Her priorities include continued investment in Frederick County Public Schools, expanding access to affordable childcare, addressing housing affordability and supporting older residents. She also highlighted accessible transportation, public health and safety, economic growth, and efforts to prepare students for careers and public service.
During the address, Fitzwater announced the publication of a Term Report tracking the implementation of recommendations made by a community-led Transition Team. The report is intended to provide residents with information about progress on those recommendations.
The report is available online at www.FrederickCountyMD.gov/TermReport.
Fitzwater also acknowledged uncertainty at the state and federal levels, including potential consequences for local government budgets, school construction, public services and working families.
She pledged to continue building partnerships and pursuing practical solutions to address the county’s needs.
