Maryland is launching a 200-million-dollar program designed to increase the state’s electricity supply and help bring down power costs.
Governor Wes Moore announced Megawatts for Maryland, a two-year program that will provide grants to companies building large-scale renewable energy and energy storage projects. The goal is to add hundreds of megawatts of clean power to the grid — enough electricity to serve more than 150,000 Maryland homes each year.
The state says electricity demand is growing faster than the available supply, contributing to higher utility bills. The program will provide up to 100 million dollars a year through the Strategic Energy Investment Fund. It will work like a competition. Developers first have to qualify, then eligible projects can compete by submitting bids for funding. The first application deadline is November 30th, and the deadline for the second stage is January 22nd, 2027.
