A high-risk situation in Berkeley County ended with a man found dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office SWAT Team and Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office Special Response Team responded October 27th to an apartment on Koncer Drive.
The incident stemmed from a burglary and extensive property damage investigation at a home on Beards Crossing. Investigators say the damage appeared to be from gunfire, and a dog had also been shot and killed inside the residence. Deputies obtained warrants for a suspect facing felony charges involving property destruction and animal cruelty. Because of concerns about firearms and possible violence, five neighboring apartments were evacuated in about five minutes.
After attempts to contact the suspect failed, a drone was sent inside and located a man with an apparent gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
