Heat From High Tension Fire Sparks House Fire

Damage to home was extensive.

 

Oakland, Md (KM) A house fire in Garrett County over the weekend is being labeled accidental.

The Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office says fire fighters responded to 1125 Hutton Road in Oakland shortly before 1:30 Saturday afternoon, and spent 40-minutes bringing the flames under control.  Damage is estimated at $70,000 to the home, and $30,000 to the contents. No one was injured.

Investigators say tree cutting on a neighboring property struck high tension electrical lines which led to excess heat,  causing the house to catch fire. .

The occupants have been displaced and are being assisted by other family members.

The Fire Marshal’s Office says damage to the basement was extensive, with smoke and heat damage throughout the rest of the home.
