Mt. St. Mary’s Could Offer Two New Degree Programs This Fall

Students attending Mount Saint Mary’s University this fall could be able  to take courses from two new degree programs.

President Karl Einolf says the University has put together a program in forensic accounting. “The programs are actually going to really help our accounting students both at the undergraduate and graduate level,” he said. “They are contemporary programs that there’s a lot of demand for in industry.”

The Mount will offer an undergraduate and graduate certificate in forensic accounting. Men and women who complete this program will be able to analyze financial information for legal proceedings and to detect fraud.

The second program is in cybersecurity. “Certainly, that’s an area that’s very hot right now. And there’s definitely a demand for students to have these skills,” says Einolf. Students trained in this program will have the skills to protect data and software.

“Both of those programs are under review at the Maryland Higher Education Commission,” says Einolf. “So they’re  proposed programs at this point.” He’s hoping the Commission will approve both of these programs, and, if that happens, students could start taking courses in forensic accounting and cybersecurity this fall.

Mount officials say both programs have been under development for about a year.
