It will be in an undisclosed location in Hagerstown.

A drunk and impaired driving checkpoint will take place this weekend at an undisclosed location in Hagerstown.

Maryland State Police say they’ll be working with the Washington County Sheriff’s Office on the operation which will occur on Saturday, April 16th and Sunday, April 17th. Authorities say the goal is to prevent alcohol-related crashes, and remind citizens that police are out there strictly enforcing DUI laws.

State Police remind citizens that anyone convicted of driving under the influence could face fines and expenses that exceed several thousand dollars, along with a loss of driving privileges and an increase in insurance fees.

Officials say in 2014, there were 442 fatal crashes in Maryland, 35% of them were directly related to DUI. 29% of those were above a blood alcohol level of .08%.

State Police say over the last 20 years, progress has been made in decreasing the numbers of impaired driving crashes through increased awareness, education and vigorous DUI enforcement.

Authorities remind residents to pickĀ  a designated driver to take them home if they’ve had too much to drink at a party or other social event.
