A family of five was displaced.
A two-alarm fire destroyed two homes in Brunswick early Sunday morning.
Frederick County Fire and Rescue officials say the call went out at around 2:35 AM for a house on fire in the 100 block of Sixth Avenue. Arriving units say the two, single-family, two-story homes were fulling involved in flames.
It took 75 fire fighters from four counties three hours to put out the blaze. Damage is estimated at $500,000 .
One of the homes was vacant at the time of the fire. The occupants of the other house, two adults and three children, got out safely. The Red Cross is assisting them.
The fire also damaged three other homes. A total of five homes were affected by the blaze.
Potomac Edison was called to the scene to assist with the downed power lines in the area, and the City of Brunswick provided a backhoe to help with putting out the hot spots.
The Frederick County Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause and origin of the fire.
