FREDERICK, Md. (DG/KR) On Friday Frederick County Executive Jan Gardner unveiled her fiscal year 2017 budget and included in her spending plan was additional funding for the public school system: Superintendent of Frederick County Public Schools, Dr. Teresa Alban, said Gardener plans to funds the local school system 10.5 million dollars above maintenance of effort.
“Well I think those who want to see our school system stay strong are excited about it. I know it was very good news for us,” said Alban.
Dr. Alban was a guest on WFMD’s Morning News Express with Bob Miller Monday morning. She said this money will help attract and retain good, quality teachers.
“We were taking a look at last year, we increased class size, so the board was looking at ways to possibly mitigate some of that. Also, we know our salary scale has been a challenge for us,” said Alban.
Tonight the Frederick County Council will hold a public hearing on the education portion of the County Executive’s budget.
