Motorists are asked to follow detour signs and plan for additional time.
The State Highway Administration says it will close a portion of Route 144 which is Main Street in New Market. The closure will begin on Friday, April 29th at 6:00 PM, and will last through Monday, May 2nd at 5:00 AM.
SHA says Route 144 between Route 75 and Prospect Street will to closed to allow crews to remove the top layer of asphalt, and repave the road and driveway connections.
A detour will be set up for motorists.
Although Route 144 (Main Street) in front of New Market Community Park will be closed just east of Federal Street, the park will be accessible. Motorists are urged to follow a signed detour.
The work is part of an $8-million streetscape project being done by Concrete General Inc. of Gaithersburg. This project is scheduled to be finished by the winter of 2017 and it’s expected to improve mobility and safety in the town, according to SHA.
