MS Run Takes Place On May 15th

URBANA, Md. (LR)- We may of heard of MS before, but a lot of people don’t know how badly it can affect a person and their family. According to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, MS is an unpredictable, often disabling disease of the central nervous system that disrupts the flow of information within the brain, and between the brain and body.

The Gorman Family of Urbana is hosting the Heather M. Gorman MS Run on Sunday, May 15th. MS has touched the lives of this family, and 16- year old Hailey Gorman told us what MS is, and how it has affected her mom.

“MS is a disease that eats away at your nerves and it makes life difficult. It messes with your balance and kind of makes you dizzy, and with my mom, its made it hard for her to walk and to do normal tasks,” said Hailey.

Hailey’s eight year- old sister Brin, also told us how her Mom’s MS has impacted her growing up.

“She’s been forgetting a bunch of things, she forgets sometimes in the morning that she has to get up and help me. It makes you walk really badly. It makes you like shakey. She needs help when she needs to drink and eat,” Brin said.

An estimated 2.3 million people around the world have MS, including 400,000 Americans. The family hopes the run will help find a cure and raise awareness in the community.

The run will be at the Urbana High School Football Stadium. Gates will open at 9:15 AM and the run will begin at 9:45 AM. All proceeds of the race will go towards the National MS Society.
