Veterans can learn about how to access the services they need in one location.
More than 30 organizations will be represented Saturday, May 8th at a one-stop-shop for military veterans taking place at the Mount Saint Mary’s University Frederick Campus at 5350 Spectrum Drive. The times will be from 1:00 PM until 4:00 PM.
The event is being hosted by 6th District Congressman John Delaney. “We’re bringing together 30 organizations to help veterans with employment issues, with job training, with health care,” he says. “We’re going to have representatives from the Baltimore VA there, Martinsburg, they’re going to be there.”
He says it’s important that the Department of Veterans Administration is represented at this event. “This will be an opportunity for people to sit down and get some of their questions answered,” he says.
Other organizations which will be there include the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, AMVETS Health Centers, American Legion Francis Scott Key Post #11, American Legion Morris Frock Post 42, Frederick Community College and Hagerstown Community College Veterans Advisers and many other agencies.
“Veterans have been one of my main priorities since I’ve been in the Congress,” says Delaney. “Making sure these men and women who’ve served our country and put themselves in a position to make the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom, we owe them a tremendous debt. And one of the ways we can repay this debt is making sure they are gainfully employed, that their health care needs are getting taken care of.”
Delaney says he will be filing a bill to expedite medical leave benefits for working veterans.
