They’ll be used by TransIT Services of Frederick County.
A ribbon cutting was held Thursday morning for five new electric buses for Transit Services of Frederick County. The buses are re-manufactured with the diesel engine removed, and replaced with an electric motor.
“I am proud that TransIT Services of Frederick County is on the leading edge of technology with our new energy-efficient buses,” said County Executive Jan Gadner, in a statement.
Transit hopes to save $470,000 on each bus over the 12-year life of the vehicle.
The electric buses are scheduled to be put into service on June first.
TransIT Director Nancy Norris says additional electric buses will be purchased if the funding is available.
