Police say she may have been using her cell phone before the crash.
State Police in Washington County say the victim of a fatal accident Monday morning along Interstate 70 may have been using her cell phone while driving.
Troopers, who were dispatched to I-70 eastbound near Clear Spring for a vehicle-crash, say a Chevrolet Trailblazer left the roadway, and traveled into the center median. The vehicle continued to slide on the grassy surface and struck a tree head-on.
The driver, identified Jessica Dones, 27, of Warfordsburg, Pennsylvania, was taken to Meritus Medical Center where she succumbed to her injuries. State Police say there were no passengers in Dones’ Chevy Trailblazer, and no other vehicles were involved in the crash.
Troopers say a preliminary investigation, corroborated by an independent witness, reveals that Dones was operating her vehicle in an erratic manner, and may have been using her cell phone prior to leaving the highway and entering the median.
