Frederick American Legion Baseball

Frederick American Legion Baseball, FSK Post #11 Manager Tom Long and pitchers Doug Pearl and Mike Bealmear are the guests on Frederick County Sports Weekend this Sunday on WFMD Radio and WFMD.COM!!!!

Let’s play some baseball and if you are involved in American Legion Baseball you will certainly be doing just that. The Post #11 schedule here in the city of Frederick starts with a game against the Flying Dogs on May 25 at 5:30 pm at Grove Stadium. The regular season ends for Post #11 on Saturday morning July 23 at Mt. Airy. In between there are at least 36 games and there is a “wooden bat” tournament at McCurdy Field over the 4th of July weekend which could add on even more games. And this comes after most of the players had competed in a regular high school or college season! You’ve got to love baseball and these guys do! Ed Lulie and I sat in disbelief as Manager Long and the players, Doug Pearl and Mike Bealmear (see attached photo) sat in the WFMD studio and told us there are also practices and most of the players have part time jobs too! Sounds like a busy summer! And of course there are the post season tournaments which could lead to the American Legion World Series in August in Shelby, North Carolina. The state tournament this year is in Funkstown and the regionals are in nearby Leesburg, Va. Frederick Post #11 will play most of its games against league rivals Woodsboro, Mt. Airy , Sykesville and Funkstown. The Frederick Team includes players from the 3 Frederick high schools: Frederick , Tuscarora and Thomas Johnson plus Brunswick, St. Johns and a few players from the east in the Oakdale school district. On the show Sunday pitchers Doug Pearl out of Brunswick High School and Frederick Community College and Mike Bealmear out of St. Johns talk about their careers and Manager Tom Long talks about 43 years of coaching baseball and praises the American Legion for picking up the tab! Oh, if you like baseball, be listening this Sunday (5/22) to Frederick County Sports Weekend at 12:05 pm on 930 WFMD Radio and the streaming audio of wfmd.com
