During a press conference Thursday, Frederick County Executive, Jan Gardner, announced she has proposed three changed to the Frederick County Charter Government.

FREDERICK, Md. (KR) During a press conference Thursday, Frederick County Executive, Jan Gardner, announced she has proposed three changed to the Frederick County Charter Government.

Garnder said after 18 months, we can identify where adjustments would help the process to run more smoothly.

“Yesterday I submitted to the County Council three proposed amendments for the charter that I believe will further strengthen the charter and also provide a voice for citizens who deserve to have a role and a say in how their government functions.” said Gardner.

One bill would provide the county council with the ability to adopt an expedited bill, Gardner explained.

“Emergency Legislation is defined in the Maryland Constitution and an emergency bill would take effect as soon as the bill is signed,” said Gardner.

The other proposed amendments she made were to provide additional time to finalize the annual budget and adjust the public hearing notice and publication time for amendments to bills under consideration and extend the time to enact a bill from 90 days to six months.
