Washington County Man Charged With Arson

Investigators say he set fire to next to a camper trailer.

A Washington County man is charged with several offenses, including arson, in connection with a fire at a trailer. Christian Weigand, 41, is behind bars at the Detention Center on $150,000 bond.

The Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office says it all started early Thursday morning with a domestic incident when Weigand removed the possessions belonging to Tiffany Swope, 28, from his home, and took them to a trailer located in the 9212 Stottlemyer Road in Boonsboro. Weigand allegedly set the items on fire, scorching the camper which belonged to Shawn Wolfe, 25.

The flames were extinguished by a neighbor before fire fighters arrived. Personnel from the Mount Aetna Fire Company checked for host spots.  Damage is estimated at $2,000.

Weigand was taken by ambulance to Meritus Medical Center after he was struck on the head with portable fire extinguisher, and then transported to the Detention Center after he was treated.

The State Fire Marshal’s Office says Weigent confessed to investigators that he set the fire. He’s charged with 1st-degree arson, 1st-degree malicious burning, malicious destruction of property, and two counts of reckless endangerment.
