Juvenile Charged As Adult In Stabbing

Police believe it could be gang-related.

A 16-year-old Frederick boy is charged as an adult in connection with a stabbing last Friday night. Police on Monday took Tyrone Smallwood into custody without incident. He’s charged with one count of attempted 2nd-degree murder, two counts of 1st-degree assault and one count of participation in a criminal gang.

Authorities say a number of individuals were involved in a fight Friday night in the 1300 block of Key Parkway. During the altercation, two individuals were stabbed with a sharp object. One of the victims was taken to Frederick Memorial Hospital with non-life threatening injuries; the other was flown to a regional trauma center with life-threatening injuries.

Police say a number of individuals connected with the fight are gang members, and that appears to be a motive.
