Recovery Search Efforts Continue for Missing Boaters in the Potomac River Near Point of Rocks

Two men have been missing after their boat capsized in the Potomac River on Sunday.FREDERICK, Md. (KR) Two men have been missing after their boat capsized in the Potomac River on Sunday. Around 5 AM, 51- year old Robert Lee from Frederick and 62- year old Lawrence Grey from Brunswick left to go fishing near the Point of Rocks at the Virginia border.

Hours later the Maryland Natural Resources Police say they received a call from a person that said they saw their boat flipped upside down in the water. Spokeswoman, Candy Thomson says search crews responded to the scene.

“Officers began a search, we had the Brunswick and Carroll Manor Fire Departments there, Maryland State Police helicopter flew over the area and we had National Park Service personnel,” said Thomson.

After searching all day, authorities had to call off their efforts for the evening, said Thomson.

“We had to battle some pretty nasty storms coming through the area yesterday afternoon and we suspended the search last [Sunday} evening. We just started the search again this morning. We’ll have divers in the water and we’ll search the shoreline,” said Thomson.

A recovery search is on going. Thomson said they urge anyone who plans to go into the water to always wear a life jacket and tell someone where you plan to go.
