Taneytown Man Arrested For Firing Shotgun Into The Air

He’s also charged with drug offenses.

A Taneytown was arrested on Monday for firing a shotgun into the air. Ted William Rill,27, is charged with two counts of 1st-degree assault, two counts of 2nd-degree assault, reckless endangerment, weapons and drug offenses, and resisting arrest.

The Carroll County Sheriff’s Office says deputies, State Troopers and Taneytown Police Officers responded to the 4,000 block of Old Taneytown Road at 5:05 PM for reports of a man firing a shotgun into the air. They learned that Rill was seen staggering along the road near a residence. Fire and rescue personnel were called.

While waiting for the medics, Rill entered a home, and returned carrying a weapon, which he fired once in the air. No one was hurt. Witnesses fled to their vehicles. Rill then went back into the home.

The Sheriff’s Office says Rill is prohibited from possessing a firearm and ammunition due to a previous infraction. Deputies say they also found Rill in possession of medication for which he had no prescription, as well as a small container of marijuana.

He was taken to the Carroll County Detention Center.
