The wreck occurred on Monday in Buckeystown.
FREDERICK, Md. (AP) – Law enforcement officials say alcohol, recklessness and a lack of helmets appear to have contributed to a fatal head-on collision between an all-terrain vehicle and a car.
Frederick County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Amanda Ensor said Wednesday that beer cans were strewn among debris from the ATV after the crash Monday near Buckeystown. She says neither man aboard the ATV wore a helmet.
Maryland Natural Resources Police spokesman Candy Thomson says an agency officer saw the ATV run a stop sign at the intersection of Route 85 and Michael’s Mill Road, about a quarter-mile from the crash. She says ATVs are prohibited on public roads.
The crash killed 21-year-old ATV passenger Chris Munday of Middletown. The ATV driver, 29-year-old Kenneth Niblett of Frederick, remains in critical condition in a Baltimore hospital.
