Maryland State Police in Frederick will be participating in a special enforcement effort this weekend along Route 15.

Called “Border to Border,” troopers will be have special drug sniffing canines to help reduce drug trafficking, especially heroin. They’ll also be doing criminal and traffic enforcement. In addition, the State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division will be conducting safety inspections of commercial trucks.

In a news release, the State Police Frederick Barrack says police agencies along the Route 15 corridor from New York to Florida will also be taking part in this enforcement effort. Officials remind citizens it’s important to drive safely in orderĀ  to reduce traffic fatalities, particularly during the summer months when the number of vehicles on the highways increases.

As part of “Border to Border,” the State Police and the Frederick Police Department will be doing a sobriety checkpoint along northbound Route 15 near Seventh Street. The checkpoint will operate under the guidelines of “Checkpoint Strikeforce.” Authorities say the goal is to educate drivers about drinking and driving.

Police agencies remind motorists if they plan to travel this weekend to buckle up, put down the phone and drive sober.
