FREDERICK, Md. (KR) The Rocky Ridge Road bridge in Frederick County is going to get an upgrade soon. The State Highway Administration says they will be reconstructing the roadway over the Monocacy River.
Charlie Gischlar, spokesperson for the SHA says workers will be replacing the 84 year old bridge deck and deteriorated steel beams.
“There comes a point in time where it outlives its useful life, so that’s what we’re doing and to expedite the work we are going to be closing that bridge on June 21st and posting a detour route around the area,” said Gischlar.
The detour will be Maryland 194 to Md 550 and then will take you back to Route 77, according to the State Highway Administration.
“And that will be approximately a 10 week closure, trying to get it up in time before late summer before schools start again. That way we can get a lot of work done, get a brand new bridge deck on there and do other repairs,” said Gischlar.
The SHA says the project will cost $2.6 million dollars. Around 800 vehicles travel on Rocky Ridge
