Police say he was prohibited from owning a gun.
A Frederick man is charged with assault and firearms offenses following his arrest early Saturday morning.
Police say an officer on bike patrol in the area of the Olde Town Tavern on Market Street at around 1:25 AM saw an argument between several people. One person reached for a handgun, racked the slide and turned toward the others. The cop intervened, and the man with the gun fled on foot. He was apprehended after a foot chase of several blocks.
During the pursuit, the individual tossed his gun into a nearby yard. It was recovered by officers.
The suspect, identified as Iman Darnell James, 26, is charged with two counts of 1st-degree assault, reckless endangerment, illegal possession of a registered handgun and use of a firearm during felony.
Due to James’ criminal history, he was prohibited for possessing any handguns, according to police.
