Teen Arrested On Weapons Charges

He was apprehended following a traffic stop on Friday.

Frederick, Md. (KM) An 18-year-old was arrested in Frederick on Friday on weapons charges. Tahjay Jovaughn Cruickshank was taken into custody following a traffic stop at West Patrick Street at McCain Drive.

The Frederick Police Street Crimes Team saw a driver commit a traffic violation, and he was pulled over. An officer approaching the vehicle detected an odor of marijuana. Cruickshank admitted to police that he had a small amount of pot on his person. He was removed from his vehicle and searched.

Police say Cruickshank made several attempts to avoid being searched by keeping his body close to his vehicle. He had to be handcuffed. During that time, a small silver revolver fell out of his shorts. The weapon was loaded with four rounds, police say. Officers say a small bag of marijuana was found in Cruickshank’s backpack, along with a box of bullets.

He was given a citation for possession of marijuana, but was charged with being in possession of a handgun by a person under 21 years of age. Other charges include possession of ammunition by a person prohibited from possessing a regulated firearm, and wearing a handgun on his person.
