Suspicious Item Found In Howard County Thurs. Night

It was rendered harmless.


Columbia, Md. (KM)  The Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office Bomb Squad was called to Route 29 near Route 40 in Howard County Thursday night at around 8:30 for a suspicious item.

Police found the device along the roadway which was a metal pipe with end caps.

Technicians were at the scene for three-and-a-half hours.  They  conducted a diagnostic on the device, and rendered it safe.

Evidence was collected at the scene and taken to the F-B-I Crime Lab in Quantico.for testing and analysis.

There were no injuries from this incident.

Howard County EMS staff were at the scene, and fire fighters remained at their nearest station in case they  both were needed, according to the Fire Marshal’s Office.
